Professor
Gamal is an accomplished researcher, prolific writer, economist, and
University professor. He is the FIRST ever American Professor in the
history of the United States to hold the position of Chaired Professor
of Islamic Economics, Finance and Management.
Professor El-Gamal brought advanced mathematical, statistical and economic
tools to Islamic Economics, Banking and Finance for the first time in
the
history of the field, to contribute new insight in the field.
Dr. El-Gamal's proficient knowledge of English and Arabic furthered
by his interest in reading and research, his outstanding intellect and
insight, courage and in-depth analysis have contributed to the beginnings
of what we believe to be a modern economic theory. In the past, Islamic
Economic research was a mere recitation and recycling of past research;
Today, Dr. El-Gamal is presenting a true modernist approach to the field.
Dr. El-Gamal holds a Ph.D. in Economic from Northwestern University,
Evanston, IL, an M.S. in Statistics from Stanford University, Palo Alto,
CA, as well as an M.A. and B.A. in Economics from The American University,
Cairo Egypt.
His professional experience include teaching at University of Rochester,
California Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin, and currently
at Rice University. He has also worked as an Economist with the International
Monetary Fund.
